6 examples of inspiring emails from the Travel & Transportation Industry in 2024

Aug 21, 2024

The travel and transportation industry is particularly fortunate in having a wealth of opportunities to inspire avid travellers.

From incorporating beautiful imagery and snappy copy, to automating travel updates and reminders, the possibilities are endless.

At Deployteq, we love to receive inspiring emails from travel brands across the globe. And recently, a few of them really caught our attention.

Read on to explore 6 of our favourite examples of inspiring, real-life emails from the travel and transportation industry. From flash sales and cross-promotion, to feedback requests and sustainability.

easyJet – Flash sale

FOMO (fear of missing out) is one of the most successful psychological marketing tactics available for travel and transportation brands. In fact, 60% of millennial consumers report that they have made a reactive purchase after experiencing FOMO, most often within 24 hours.

easyJet’s Orange Drop email utilises FOMO in multiple ways. Firstly, their sale is time-limited, only lasting a few days, which encourages travellers to decide on a purchase quickly without being able to deliberate for too long.

easyJet also combines this with enticing language, such as “exploring the forest-clad peninsulas” and “lazing on the breathtaking beaches” to spark inspiration in their audience.

And lastly, their call to action utilises persuasive language which encourages travellers to make a booking today so they don’t miss out.

Trainline – Automated journey updates

Let’s be honest, booking a trip can be a stressful experience. So, whether they’re taking trains, planes, or automobiles, travellers will always want the relevant information at their fingertips.

Trainline achieves this through automated emails, triggered by specific events such as a ticket purchase or a journey disruption.

Their email designs are simple and clean, and their copy is friendly and clear. Perfect for recipients who are in a rush or feeling a little frazzled.

They utilise dynamic content to incorporate destinations and updates which are specific to their recipient.

And lastly, they offer clear links to the recipient’s account and app, as well as further information if required. Meaning that the email incorporates only the most essential elements, with no unnecessary distractions.

British Airways – Useful content

One thing that travel and transportation brands have in abundance is content. Whether it be inspirational imagery, guides from experts, VR tours, or destination highlights.

British Airways make the most of their useful content by dedicating entire email campaigns to their High Life Magazine; promoting their latest guides, blog posts, destinations, tours, and news.

These emails are comparable to traditional newsletters, but where British Airways really excels is in the variety of content formats and topics they share. Making the email genuinely interesting and engaging.

They finish their email off with a useful Membership Points update, specific to the individual recipient, and strategically placed next to the call to action to further encourage a traveller’s next booking.

Uber – Cross-promotion

When you think of Uber, you likely think of their taxi service, or maybe their food delivery service, Uber Eats.

However, Uber has recently ventured into selling train tickets. And part of their marketing approach for this new venture is to offer benefits across their range of Uber brands. Encouraging travellers to use Uber for a variety of travel needs.

Uber’s below email executes this strategy perfectly by promoting general ‘Uber Credits’ when train tickets are booked in the app.

If recipients aren’t sure how the process is, further information is offered, alongside the wider range of benefits from booking through the Uber brand.

Virgin Atlantic – Feedback requests

Feedback requests are fairly common in the travel and transportation industry. However, this version by Virgin Atlantic stood out from the rest.

The email is simple, but incorporates the Virgin brand colours which are notoriously eye-catching.

The heading copy is friendly, focusing on thanking the recipient for travelling with Virgin, instead of diving immediately into asking for a favour. This tone is continued throughout the email, reinforcing Virgin’s dedication to improving customer service.

Virgin also utilise dynamic content to ensure that the copy is specific to the recipient and the destination that they recently travelled to.

Lastly, we love the small but effective design elements added within the email. This includes the trip progress bar at the top, and the use of a gradient background colour, which helps to guide recipient down the email towards the score input.

Getaround – Sustainability

Sustainability is an important topic in the travel and transportation industry, with over 80% of global travellers reporting that sustainable tourism is important to them, and that they are willing to adopt sustainable travel incentives.

Getaround, a local car and car hire brand, combine destination promotion with their sustainability benefits. And instead of focusing on generic sustainability efforts, Getaround spotlight their passion for protecting National Parks.

And alongside stunning imagery to offer a little inspiration, Getaround also include a link to their blog post entirely dedicated to the subject.
